We work closely with our clients every step of the way to design and build a customized conversion van that suits your needs, lifestyle, and personal aesthetic. Here is what to expect when you commission a custom Out There Van.
Introductions & Estimate
Get started by filling out our van build questionnaire. We ask for basic information about you and your van and have you provide us with details about your desired components, layout, and how you plan to use the van. After you send us your completed questionnaire, we will contact you to provide a ballpark price estimate, get to know you, and to answer any general questions.
Design & Agreement
If you are comfortable with the ballpark estimate, we will schedule an in-depth planning and design phone call. During this call, we will work out all the details including layout and cabinetry, windows, plumbing, electrical, and interior finishes. We will then provide you with a detailed price quote, floor plan drawings, and 3D rendering. This is a time intensive process, and we charge a $500 design fee for this detailed estimate. Once we are in agreement about all these details, we require a $2,000 deposit to reserve a spot in our build schedule. (If you're happy with the initial estimate and want to put down a deposit right away without a 3D rendering or additional quoting, we will waive the design fee.) Both the design fee and deposit are non-refundable; these payments will be applied toward the cost of your build.
A full custom van build typically takes 10-14 weeks. We ask that you have your van delivered to our shop a week before your scheduled start date. During the build, we will send you weekly updates and photos to keep you involved as your dream van becomes a reality. We will work with you to schedule pickup as the project nears completion. On pickup day, please plan to spend 1-2 hours at our shop. During this time, we will walk you through your van and give demonstrations for how to use all its components and systems. We will provide you with all manuals and user guides that came with the installed components. Our goal on pickup day is for you to feel educated and confident about using your new camper van.
We divide payment into three equal installments (minus the $500 design fee and $2,000 deposit). First payment is due 4 weeks prior to the scheduled build start date so that we can start ordering your materials and components. Second payment is due when we are halfway through your build—the halfway completion point and the labor completed at this point will be outlined in your build agreement. Third payment of certified funds is due on or before pickup day. Any remaining balance will need to be paid in full before you drive away.
The final and most important step: decide on your first destination and hit the road in your new home on wheels!
